The Thing We Fear: Public Speaking - and How to Overcome it if We Want to Win
We need eloquent conservatives to speak up with class and dignity - if we ever want to change the conversation
I remember learning in college - probably in Communications 101 - that the majority of people would rather die than speak in public.
It was always a startling and unique fact to my brain: personally, I’ve always said I’d rather speak to 5,000 people than play one on one basketball (oops. Now you know. Sports just isn’t my thing).
While the fact is startling at face value, if you look deeper and ask people one on one - I think you will find it’s a very true point.
By default one thinks of Public Speaking as “speaking in front of a crowd” but is it possible that to some people speaking up at all, even among a small group of fellow citizens, is daunting? And if so, is that something we should overcome?
The crisis we find ourselves in as a nation is a multi-prong causation (meaning there are many reasons that got us to this nexus). But I am about to make the point why it comes back to the value of communication and speaking up in “public” - no matter the audience - is important, if we want to save America.
What is Public Speaking
Let’s define the scary term for what it is. What is Public Speaking?
It is pure and simple - speaking in public.
Public Speaking is oftentimes in front of big groups but not always. Sure, some of you will someday speak to hundreds of people from a stage but for some of you just learning to voice your opinion in a small group of people is going to have huge impacts.
To help save America, we need men and women who are willing to speak up about their beliefs. We need men and women who will move their values from “inside” to outside with eloquence, class and dignity, raising valid points and helping others start to think a different way.
