Why Conservatives Don't "Get" Technology
It is destroying us all while Progressives are winning ...
I bang my head against the wall: why do Republican influencers and conservative movements do so bad at communications and technology? Why do they miss the low hanging fruit? Why do they not meet the public where they are in effective manners on the online space?
As I grow up I realize, there is a deeper issue when it comes to conservatives and technology. It’s a question we don’t ask enough, “Why is technology something we struggle with, as conservatives?” There are rational reasons for the “why” but will we take time to redeem it so we can up our changes at wins?
That is up to you.
THE 10 WHY’S
Conservatives are a beautiful breed of people. We are unique and complex. I love how Russell Kirk lays out who we are in his 10 point list of our core principles. You can read them all here.
I make the following assessments as general statements. As conservatives:
We are focused internally: we want small circles of people we trust. We do not live for the glory and limelight: we heed our conscious and we work right to do the right thing by God so that we have moral peace on the inside. Technology? That’s far down on the list of priorities.
Too much technology leads conservatives to bigger concerns (and valid at times) of too little freedom. The hesitations are valid whether it’s through “tracking”, “potential spyware” or just a lack of knowledge: we do need to treat technology like a tool that can wield bad, while also good.
